I found this place along the wayside of the highway, in plain sight and was caught up with fascination immediately. I just had to stop and see what they had! So I looked & looked and couldn't stop looking at all the fascinating 3-D art they had to offer. It was absolutely mesmerizing and difficult to pick just one item. The true native art talent far surpasses any mass produced items in a commercial souvenir shop anywhere else on the islands. He was a truly talented artist...and this is coming from an educated, experienced artist. Don't miss this chance to visit this roadside, one man art show! What a discovery!
I had done a lot of searching before going to Hawaii and when I came across this wood carving shop I told my husband we are going to find it. Well we did and ended up staying there for about an hour watching Maile work. He is a very personable man and explained from where the wood comes from to his actual carving. His prices are reasonable for all the hand work he puts into them and will make what you want. We could have spent the day watching and talking to this gentle man, but we didn't want to hold him up anymore so with our purchase we were gone. I took his card and we plan on ordering some more items. This is a must stop whenever you are in Hawaii. 49-302 Kam Hwy, Kaneohe, HI. My husband, who was there for work, found Maile's place before I arrived to join him in Oahu. We had him carve walking sticks and a bracelet for us. Every piece was a work of art that we treasure. We found him warm, personable and a pleasure to know and to deal with. I would recommend him over other carvers you see at the swap meet and so on. He does a real quality job and is a wonderful creative designer.

Maile's shop is very unique and full of beautiful wood carvings. It seemed to be in a little bit of a disarray and we weren't sure if it was even open. We wandered into the back where they do all the work and that's where we found Maile. What a great guy! He was eager to show us around his shop / store and explain how he does his work and the meanings and history behind various pieces. We spent a good bit of time just talking and walking around his shop. He was a pleasure to talk to and we were glad to buy a piece from him. He even figured out a way to secure it to the Motorcycle we were on!
Amazing work. Incredible detail. Must stop here! You will definitely end up buying something...
