Holy smokes, a dangerous psychiatric patient described as a "classic serial killer" recently escaped from the hospital. He's currently on the loose in the San Francisco Bay Area.
The care of patients remains consistently high DESPITE the fact that the legislature refuses to increase funding for more staff, better infrastructure, emergency beepers with GPS, and better paid staff. Attempting to care for very ill patients IN ADDITION to caring for violent patients is a strain. Most states have separate facilities for violent patients who have committed murder and rape. BTW only 3% of mentally ill patients ever commit violence. The recent escape of the patient was a blip and the patient was returned from California without incidence. Let’s not base an assessment on one escape. Instead help by asking the Hawai’i state legislature for more money to help this place.
